Domaine Cornulus – The pure expression of Valais terraces

A modest bet turned reference

In 1986, Stéphane Reynard and Dany Varone, passionate but self-taught cousins, started their adventure in a garage. By 1989, they rented their first vineyards. The acquisition of Clos de Mangold (1995), Corbassières (1999), and Monzuettes (2015) marked their rise as exceptional producers .

An estate of 17 ha on more than 250 terraces

Located between Sion and Sierre, the vineyards are terraced on steep slopes of calcareous schist, gypsum, and Oxfordian loam. Each micro-terroir – Octoglaive, Clos de Mangold, Clos des Corbassières, Clos des Monzuettes – is vinified separately to reveal its uniqueness .

Biodynamic viticulture, expression of the soil

Engaged in biodynamics since 1999 and certified Bio Suisse, practices include grassing, cover crops, natural amendments. The duo aims to transmit cosmic rhythms to the vine while respecting living organisms .

Natural vinifications & thoughtful aging

Fermentations with indigenous yeasts, aging in amphorae, barrels, long aging on lees. Some wines do not undergo malolactic fermentation, enhancing their typicity .

Signature style: minerality, density, and elegance

The reds – Cornalin, Humagne Rouge, Pinot Noir, Syrah – reveal noble tannins, saline freshness, black fruits/spices. The whites – Petite Arvine, Clos de Mangold, Johannisberg – combine finesse, white fruits, and pronounced minerality.

The flagship cuvées

  • Cornalin Antica: mosaic terroir, powerful black fruits, aging in barrel and tunnel, aging potential 10–15 years .

  • Humagne Rouge & Syrah Antica: exemplary of indigenous grape varieties, saline, vibrant expression.

  • Clos des Corbassières Vieilles Vignes (red and white chasselas): intense terroir, density, white in amphora, classic pinot noir & gamay.

  • Clos de Mangold Vieilles Vignes: mineral chasselas, 92 pts Parker, great aging potential .

  • Clos des Monzuettes: indigenous whites on small hill terroirs, marked minerality.

Recognition & pioneers

The duo was named "Foreign Winemaker of the Year" at the Grand Tasting 2007 for their Cornalin Vieilles Vignes 2004. Their territorial, innovative, and demanding philosophy makes them ambassadors of Valais .
