A historic monument enhanced by the Brunier family
A mythical estate of Châteauneuf-du-Pape created in the 18th century, Château Fortia has been owned by the Brunier family since 1902. The fourth generation, Alice Brunier, currently presides over the estate, guided by Édouard Brunier, technical director, and the oenologist Philippe Cambie (consultant), who ensures the preservation of the heritage while infusing modernity.
Terroir & grape varieties: diversity and richness of the appellation
The estate spans 45 ha divided between terraces of rolled pebbles, sandy clays, and stony soils. The blend brings together the 13 traditional grape varieties of Châteauneuf-du-Pape: predominantly Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Roussanne, etc., for a complex, powerful, and elegant style.
Viticulture & philosophy: respect for the soil and the quest for authenticity
Conducted in sustainable agriculture, the estate practices manual harvesting, meticulous parcel selection, and natural soil work. The objective: to apply respectful and sustainable viticulture while expressing the historical typicity of each location.
Vinification & aging: parcel care and mastery of wood
Vinifications are carried out parcel by parcel in concrete, stainless steel, or wooden vats, with macerations of 3 to 4 weeks depending on the grape varieties. Aging lasts from 12 to 18 months in barrels and casks, with about 40% new wood, to combine structure, tannic finesse, and aromatic expression.
Iconic cuvées
– Château Fortia: great complex wine, notes of black fruits, garrigue, fine spices, tanned tannins, and a pure and saline finish.
– Les Safres de Fortia: granitic terroir, finer, finely spiced, ideal in the medium term.
– Fortia Sélection: prestigious parcel, solar expression, great finesse, and longevity.
– Fortia Blanc (occasional): rare white, white Grenache and Clairette, fresh, floral, mineral.
