Bodegas Castaño is one of the pioneering estates of the Yecla appellation, in the southeast of Spain. At a time when the region was still little recognized, the Castaño family believed in the potential of its old vines and its emblematic grape variety: the Monastrell (Mourvèdre). Their philosophy is based on a deep respect for the terroir, sustainable viticulture, and a desire to highlight a local grape variety through a modern and qualitative approach.

It was Ramón Castaño Santa who initiated this qualitative shift in the 1980s, soon joined by his sons Daniel, Juan Pedro, and Ramón, who managed to give a new impetus to the estate while maintaining a strong family anchorage. Together, they developed precision viticulture and a wine style that combines Mediterranean generosity, freshness, and structure.

Terroir & vinification

The vineyard, located between 400 and 800 meters above sea level, rests on limestone and stony soils, with a hot and dry continental climate. The Monastrell thrives there, producing colorful, sunny, and deep wines, but balanced by a preserved natural acidity.

The vinifications are meticulous, with parcel selections, fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and for the superior cuvées, aging in French and American oak barrels, often second or third use to preserve the fruit.

Iconic cuvées

  • Casa Cisca: iconic cuvée from very old Monastrell vines. Concentration, depth, and remarkable aging potential.

  • Hécula: juicy, charming Monastrell, ambassador of the Castaño style worldwide.

  • Castaño Colección: parcel range (Monastrell, Garnacha Tintorera, Cabernet), careful aging, and aromatic complexity.

  • Dulce Monastrell: rare, intense, and velvety sweet red, with black fruit and spices.
