Located at the foot of the village of Saint-Émilion, Château Canon-la-Gaffelière is an emblematic property of the right bank, classified as 1er Grand Cru Classé B. It is Stephan von Neipperg, heir to a German aristocratic lineage, who has been overseeing its destiny since the 1980s. Under his visionary leadership, the estate has risen to the top thanks to a unique style, between solar power and mineral freshness.

An ideal transition terroir

The vineyard extends over 19.5 hectares, on clay-limestone and sandy-clay soil, located at the bottom of the slope – a rare position for a classified growth. This terroir, well-drained and rich in geological complexity, allows for excellent expression of the grape varieties: Cabernet Franc (40%), Merlot (50%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). This atypical grape variety choice on the right bank is one of the signatures of Canon-la-Gaffelière.

Philosophy and winemaking

The estate has been certified in organic farming since 2014, proof of its commitment to the land. The winemaking is entirely parcel-based, with slow fermentations in wooden or stainless steel vats, followed by aging for 15 to 18 months in barrels (60 to 80% new). The approach combines precision, fruit sensuality, and aging potential.

  • Clos de l’Oratoire: another neighboring family property, with a rounder and more charming style, also very well-crafted.
