A small confidential estate elevated by the passion of the Vialard family
Château La Grave is a modest but well-cared-for cru, managed for several generations by the Vialard family. Today, Antoine Vialard, manager and winemaker, works hand in hand with Isabelle Vialard, oenologist, and the viticultural consultant Thomas Martin, to reveal the finesse and typicity of the Pomerol plateau.
Terroir & grape varieties: focus on red gravel and clay
The estate covers about 4 ha planted on red gravel with iron deposits, mixed with pockets of clay. The grape variety is mainly Merlot (~85%), offering roundness and charm, complemented by Cabernet Franc (~15%), for structure and freshness.
Viticulture & philosophy: micro-parcel, balance, sustainability
Sustainable viticulture: soil work without herbicides, controlled grass cover, and manual harvesting. Sorting is done parcel by parcel, grape by grape, to capture the ideal maturity while preserving the fruit and freshness.
Vinification & aging: elegance, patience, and raw expression
Discreet vinification in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks, long macerations of 3 to 4 weeks; pump-overs or rack and return according to maturity. Aging for 14 to 16 months in French barrels (≈ 50% new), seeking to marry tannic structure, freshness, and purity of the fruit.
Iconic cuvées
