Founded by Alejandro Fernández, an iconic figure in the Spanish wine renaissance, Condado de Haza is one of the pillars of the Ribera del Duero. After the resounding success of Pesquera, Alejandro sought in the 1980s a more continental, more austere terroir where Tempranillo could express another facet of its personality. He found this place in Haza, on the left bank of the Duero, and planted his first vines there. The estate was officially established in 1993.

His vision is clear: to produce great terroir reds, without artifices, patiently aged in oak barrels, true to the soul of Castile. Even today, the bodega continues this legacy with a style faithful to its origins, while integrating modern techniques in respect of natural balances.

Terroir & winemaking

Condado de Haza spans over 200 contiguous hectares, making it a rare vineyard in the region. South-facing, the estate rests on clay-limestone soils, with an altitude of 800 to 850 meters, conducive to slow and balanced ripening.

The Tempranillo is vinified without compromise: traditional fermentation, indigenous yeasts, long maceration, then aged for a minimum of 18 months in American oak barrels, followed by extended bottle aging. The style is recognizable: depth, velvety texture, ripe tannins, and a persistent finish.

Iconic cuvées

  • Condado de Haza Crianza: the estate's signature wine, rich, concentrated, and harmonious, aged in barrels.

  • Condado de Haza Reserva (depending on vintage): more ambitious parcel selection, noble structure, great aging potential.

  • Alenza (former high-end, confidential cuvée): a tribute to Alejandro & Esperanza, combining power and refinement.
