Founded in the early 2000s by the Álvarez family, also owners of the legendary Vega Sicilia estate, Bodegas Pintia was born from a clear ambition: to reveal the full potential of the Toro region, in the province of Zamora, in Castile and León. This appellation, renowned for its powerful reds, finds a finer and more elegant interpretation here thanks to the legendary expertise of the Tempos Vega Sicilia group.

Located in San Román de Hornija, the property covers about 100 hectares of vineyards, exclusively planted with Tinta de Toro, a local clone of tempranillo, particularly rustic and concentrated. The technical team led by Xavier Ausàs, then Gonzalo Iturriaga, has managed to adapt winemaking methods to this capricious grape variety to produce a wine that is both dense and refined.

Philosophy & winemaking

Pintia's philosophy is based on the mastery of power. The grapes are harvested manually, with a drastic selection. A cold maceration is systematically practiced to gently extract the aromas. Fermentations take place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, then aging in barrels (70% French, 30% American) lasts about 12 to 14 months.

Particular attention is paid to the balance between fruit, structure, and freshness, with very controlled extraction to avoid any heaviness. The wine is then refined in the bottle for several years before being marketed.

Flagship cuvée

  • Pintia: the estate's unique cuvée, 100% Tinta de Toro, from the oldest plots and aged like a grand cru. It embodies the desire to combine density, purity of fruit, and precision of texture.

Wine style

The Pintia style combines the sunny generosity of Toro with a Bordeaux-inspired vinification. The wine develops intense aromas of black fruits, violet, graphite, with ripe but tight tannins, and a mineral finish. Powerful, but never excessive, it is an excellent aging red, capable of beautiful evolution in the cellar.
