A small family estate driven by a passion for quality
Château Jean Pierre Gaussen is a modest-sized estate, founded and managed by Jean‑Pierre Gaussen, in partnership with his daughter Marine Gaussen, an oenologist and responsible for winemaking. They are accompanied by Sylvain Dubos, the vineyard manager, to fully express the terroir of the right bank of Bordeaux.
Terroir & grape varieties: diversity and freshness of Entre‑Deux‑Mers
The vineyard spans approximately 8 hectares of well-drained clay-limestone soils, exposed to the breeze of the Dordogne. The grape varieties consist of Merlot (~70%), Cabernet Franc (~25%), and Malbec (~5%), offering a balance between roundness, tension, and aromatic elegance.
Viticulture & philosophy: care, respect for the terroir, micro-quality
The estate practices sustainable viticulture, with manual harvesting and strict sorting. The goal is to reduce yields to favor concentration and finesse. The approach is pragmatic, respectful of natural balances, and focused on the pure expression of the terroir.
Winemaking & aging: tradition and modernity in the service of authenticity
Vinifications in thermoregulated stainless steel vats, macerations of 3 to 4 weeks per grape variety, followed by transfers to barrels (≈ 30% new). The aging lasts about 12 months, to bring structure, roundness, and complexity without masking the freshness of the fruit.
Iconic cuvées
– Château Jean Pierre Gaussen (Grand Vin): ruby color, aromas of red and black fruits, floral nuances, velvety tannins, saline and refreshing finish.
– Cuvée Marine: a second wine more fruity, ready to drink young, expressive, built on freshness and accessibility, while retaining the estate's signature.
