Classified 5th Grand Cru in 1855, Château de Camensac is a discreet estate located at the gates of Saint-Laurent-Médoc, on the edge of Saint-Julien. Acquired in 2005 by the Merlaut family, also owners of Chasse-Spleen, the estate is now managed by Jean-Pierre and Céline Merlaut, who have patiently elevated it to an excellent level of quality.
An original and underestimated terroir
The vineyard extends over 86 hectares of deep gravel mounds, with clay-limestone subsoils, typical of Haut-Médoc. The grape composition consists of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, with vines averaging 35 years old. The estate focuses on sustainable farming and enhancing the most qualitative plots.
Precision and modernity
Vinification takes place in thermoregulated stainless steel vats, with prolonged maceration and precise temperature control. Aging lasts about 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels (about 40% new), with a search for balance between power and finesse. The Camensac style is based on a beautiful definition of fruit, a classic structure, and a reliable aging potential.
