A refined elegance shaped by the Merlaut family
Château Kirwan has been owned by the Merlaut family since 1919. Today, Éric Merlaut presides, with Marie Dubernet Merlaut in charge of viticulture and Anne Dubreuil, oenologist. Alongside Laurent Fortin, technical director, they consolidate the Margaux style, combining finesse, precision, and freshness.

Terroir & grape varieties: fine gravel and Bordeaux signature
The vineyard extends over 40 ha of fine Garonne gravel, well-exposed and drained. The classic blend includes Cabernet Sauvignon (~60%), Merlot (~30%), Petit Verdot (~8%), and Cabernet Franc (~2%), for an elegant, racy, and airy profile.

Viticulture & philosophy: balance, respect, and modernity
Responsible viticulture, grass cover between rows, traditional pruning, and manual harvesting. The estate focuses on moderate yields, strict sorting, and parcel work to serve the precise expression of the terroir.

Vinification & aging: woody suppleness and vibrant fruit
Vinification by parcel in thermoregulated stainless steel vats, macerations of 3 to 4 weeks with moderate punch-downs. Aging for 18 months in French barrels (≈ 50% new), for silky tannins, a refined aromatic palette, and a saline and persistent finish.

Iconic cuvées
Château Kirwan (Grand Vin): elegant and airy, with notes of blackcurrant, violet, cedar, and fine spices; supple tannins and deep finish.
Les Charmes de Kirwan: second wine, fruity and accessible young, fresh, floral, true to the Margaux spirit.
