Located in San Román de Hornija, in the Toro appellation, Bodega Elías Mora was founded in the early 2000s by Victoria Benavides, one of the first women to make a name for herself in this harsh and demanding region. The estate is now recognized for its powerful yet balanced wines, produced from old Tinta de Toro vines.
The name of the estate pays tribute to Don Elías Mora, the former owner of century-old vines that Victoria Benavides has managed to preserve and enhance. With the help of oenologist Laura Sanz, she advocates for respectful viticulture and minimalist winemaking, aiming for the pure expression of the grape variety and terroir.
The vineyard covers about 20 hectares, with ungrafted vines (francs de pied) aged from 40 to over 80 years, rooted in sandy, clay, and gravel soils at 700 meters altitude. The extreme continental climate favors wines that are both concentrated and structured, while maintaining good natural freshness.
Fermentations are spontaneous, in stainless steel or concrete tanks, with long macerations. Aging varies according to the cuvées: between 6 and 24 months in French or American oak barrels, with always measured extraction to preserve the finesse of the fruit.
Elías Mora Crianza: structure, intensity, black fruits, fine tannins.
Elías Mora Gran Vino: great cuvée from the oldest vines, long aging, depth, and elegance.
Descarte: freer style, gourmet, very pure, without artifice.
Victoria: confidential micro-cuvée, power, and refinement.
La Viña de Elías Mora: exceptional parcel cuvée, very limited.
The Elías Mora style combines the solar power of Toro with a precise and unadorned interpretation. The wines are digestible, expressive, designed for aging but also accessible when young. The house has established itself as a feminine and contemporary reference of Toro, acclaimed for its consistency and sincerity.
