Erbhof Unterganzner — The Soul of South Tyrol in Wine

Located at the gateway to Bolzano in Alto Adige, Erbhof Unterganzner is a historic family-run estate renowned for its devotion to native grape varieties and deep respect for its alpine terroir. Now led by Josephus Mayr, the estate is a champion of the Lagrein grape and traditional winemaking.

Philosophy and Production

As an Erbhof — a title given to farms passed down through generations for over 200 years — the estate is steeped in heritage. The vineyards stretch along the banks of the Isarco River, in a unique microclimate ideal for viticulture.

Farming is done with great care and respect for nature, though not formally certified organic. Vinifications are traditional, using large oak casks or stainless steel tanks depending on the cuvée.

Wine Style

Lagrein, South Tyrol’s flagship red grape, is the heart of the estate. Here, it shows intensity, finesse, and character — with notes of dark cherry, violet, pepper, and leather, wrapped in a dense yet elegant structure.

The estate also produces beautiful whites (Sylvaner, Kerner, Sauvignon…) that are crisp, aromatic, and alpine in spirit.

Signature Wines

Lagrein Riserva – Structured, spicy, and deep.
Lagrein – Juicier, approachable, and honest.
Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) – Pure and mineral.
Kerner – Fresh, aromatic, with lovely tension.

A Living Tradition

Discreet yet essential in Alto Adige, Erbhof Unterganzner stands out for its precise, vibrant wines deeply rooted in their land. A living tradition, proudly preserved and thoughtfully carried forward.
