In the north of Médoc, overlooking the Gironde from its gravel hill, Château Cos d’Estournel stands as a legend. Second Grand Cru Classé of 1855, this iconic estate of Saint-Estèphe combines power, refinement, and a unique architectural signature. A wine of contrast, emotion, and character, driven by the vision of Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel, nicknamed the “Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe”.

A visionary and cosmopolitan history

From the 19th century, Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel understood that great wines are made to travel. He exported his vintages to India and China, from where he brought back an oriental aesthetic that forever marks the identity of the château: Zenith doors, pagodas, and a monumental cellar sculpt a timeless setting.

An exceptional terroir, at the top of Saint-Estèphe

Located on the famous “Cos hill”, just at the border of Pauillac, the vineyard rests on a soil of deep gravel mixed with clay. This complex geology and the proximity of the estuary favor optimal maturation of noble grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.

An inimitable style: power, sensuality, and depth

Cos d’Estournel is distinguished by an imposing structure, wrapped in silkiness, and a racy aromatic signature blending black fruits, oriental spices, incense, and cedar. It is a wine both meditative and radiant, expressing itself gracefully after a few years of aging.

The second wine, Les Pagodes de Cos, embodies this philosophy in a more immediate and accessible version.

Emblematic cuvées

  • Château Cos d’Estournel: richness, breadth, controlled tension, peak after 10–30 years.

  • Les Pagodes de Cos: finesse, charming fruit, perfect introduction to the Cos style.

  • G d’Estournel (Bordeaux Supérieur): pure fruitiness, velvety, ideal for young tasting.

  • Cos d’Estournel Blanc: minerality, aromatic brilliance, rarity (produced in very small quantities).

A philosophy of precision and innovation

Under the impetus of Michel Reybier, owner since 2000, the estate combines technical rigor and attention to detail: gravity vinification, plot selection, meticulous aging. The natural elegance of the wine is enhanced without artifice, in a spirit of constant pursuit of excellence.
