The Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is located in the heart of Chambolle-Musigny, one of the most delicate and subtle villages of the Côte de Nuits. Heir to a long line of winemakers, Ghislaine Barthod has been managing the estate alone since the late 1980s, with rare rigor and remarkable consistency in the pursuit of purity, finesse, and authenticity.
The estate covers about 6.7 hectares, exclusively planted with Pinot Noir, spread over about ten climates, all located in the commune of Chambolle-Musigny. Each plot, whether a village or a premier cru, is vinified separately to reveal the unique personality of each terroir.
Working Methods
The vineyard is cultivated using sustainable practices, with great respect for the soil, natural cycles, and without unnecessary synthetic products. The vines are grassed, worked manually, and yields are strictly limited to ensure concentration and balance.
The harvest is entirely manual, with rigorous sorting in the vineyard and then in the cellar. The winemaking remains deliberately traditional: total destemming, natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts, moderate punch-downs. The wines are then aged between 16 and 20 months in oak barrels, with a measured proportion of new wood (15 to 30% depending on the cuvées), to never overpower the fruit.
The Barthod style is distinguished by its precision of a goldsmith, silky touch, and clear expression of the terroir. Each wine is fine, tense, long on the palate, with remarkable aging potential.
