Domaine René Bouvier — Quiet excellence from Gevrey to Marsannay

Located in Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine René Bouvier has become a reference for precise, terroir-driven Burgundy. Founded in the 1950s and led by Bernard Bouvier since 1992, the domaine now covers nearly 30 hectares across the northern Côte de Nuits — from Marsannay to Chambolle-Musigny — with a treasure trove of old vines, many over 80 years old.

Understated and deeply consistent, the domaine is prized by insiders for its clarity and classicism.

Philosophy and winemaking

Vineyard work is close to organic, with no herbicides, soil tilling, and careful manual work. Harvests are done by hand, with thorough sorting.

Vinifications are gentle and low-intervention: partial destemming, native yeasts, slow macerations, and aging in oak barrels (mostly used). The aim: purity, silkiness, and clear site expression, without over-extraction or excess oak.

Wine style

The reds are fresh, fine-boned, and textural, with lovely floral aromatics and bright Pinot fruit. Tannins are polished and elegant, making the wines approachable young, but also capable of graceful aging. The whites — mostly from Marsannay — are taut, mineral, and surprisingly energetic.

These are wines of discretion and finesse, built more on nuance than on power.

Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice – Silky and structured, with dark cherry and floral lift. Benchmark village Gevrey.

Marsannay Les Longeroies – From old vines, pure and balanced. A house signature.

Fixin Crais de Chêne – Juicy, mineral Pinot Noir with crunchy fruit and fresh tannins.

Chambolle-Musigny – Rare and elegant, with lifted aromatics and satin-like texture.

Marsannay Blanc – Bright, mineral Chardonnay. Excellent with seafood or cheeses.
