A dream carried by a passionate person

Founded in 2018 by former financier Ivan Massonnat, Belargus takes over the historic domain of Jo Pithon. Spanning 24 ha of Chenin Blanc, it is inspired by Burgundy, focusing on the parcel expression of the Anjou Noir terroirs .

Terroirs engraved in schist

The vines thrive in the heart of Anjou Noir — slopes of Savennières, Quarts-de-Chaume (10 ha Grand Cru), Coteaux du Layon — offered in single-parcel cuvées according to exposure, slope, and bedrock .

Biodynamic viticulture & ultra-low yields

Conducted organically, soon to be certified biodynamic, viticulture is carried out at 25 hl/ha, almost half of ordinary yields, with manual harvesting, multiple passes, and living soil ().

Careful vinification and sober aging

Slow fermentations, indigenous yeasts, aging in wood (barrels and foudres) or sandstone, depending on the cuvée. The wines are bottled without fining or filtration, revealing tension, purity, and salinity .

Style & signature

The “Anjou Noir” is a vibrant, dense, and long entry-level cuvée. The “Quarts”, “Treilles” (monopoly), “Ruchères” (Savennières) are of a noble level, dry or botrytized, with marked salinity and freshness, already hailed as “immense” .

Representative cuvées

  • Anjou Noir: dynamic and energetic blend wine

  • Quarts, Rouères, Treilles, Ruchères, Gaudrets: emblematic parcels

  • Layon, Écharderie: fine and balanced sweet wines in favorable years
