Since 1982, Markus Stäger has tended his small family-run vineyard in Maienfeld, nestled in the heart of Switzerland’s Grisons. Together with his partner Karin, he cultivates around 4 hectares spread across 14 plots between 520 and 600 meters in elevation. The vines, some over 50 years old, grow among dry stone walls in a high-altitude climate. Certified organic since 2020, the estate embodies a deep respect for nature and a precise, thoughtful approach to viticulture.
A vibrant alpine terroir
The dry, sunny mountain climate and varied soils foster slow ripening and intense aromatic development, while altitude ensures freshness and energy in the wines.
Wine style
Stäger's wines are honest, expressive, and unpolished in the best way. Each cuvée reflects the place and the vintage with clarity. The whites (Riesling-Silvaner, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay) are fresh, bright, and mineral. The reds, made exclusively from Pinot Noir, range from supple and fruity to complex and structured, depending on the cuvée.

Philosophy & winemaking
Everything here is done by hand, with care and precision. Harvesting is manual, fermentation is parcel-specific and intervention is minimal. There's no aim for uniformity—only a desire to let each wine tell its own truth. Organic farming is not a trend here, but a way of life. Quality is born from close, attentive work in the vineyard.
