Riesling Maximin Herrenberg 2021 - Carl Loewen
From the historic Longuicher Maximin Herrenberg slope, this 2021 Grosses Gewächs Riesling shows a broader, more generous profile than Ritsch, while retaining the vintage's trademark tension and mineral focus.
Nose: Expressive and layered, it opens with notes of ripe lemon, yellow peach, and nectarine, followed by hints of lemon thyme, wild fennel, and warm slate. A touch of noble reduction (smoke, graphite) adds sophistication.
Palate: Fuller than Ritsch, yet equally focused, the palate shows fine acidity, juicy stone fruits, and a salty, precise mineral backbone. Elegant texture, energetic flow, and a long, spicy finish with great clarity and drive.
