Although it is, in terms of area, the largest of the nine grands crus of Gevrey-Chambertin, the Mazoyères-Chambertin is also one of the most difficult to find. The legislation allows producers to use the name of the neighboring appellation Charmes-Chambertin, which makes the Mazoyères-Chambertin appellation rarer and less visible on the market.
The wines from this Grand Cru are renowned for their exceptional balance. They offer a complex aromatic palette with notes of tobacco, spices, and ripe black fruits, while maintaining a certain freshness. These wines have a solid but well-integrated tannic structure, allowing them to improve with time. Thanks to their specificities, the Mazoyères-Chambertin pair perfectly with roasted, grilled, or sauced red meats, as well as game dishes.
Some additional information:
- Annual production: about 9,000 bottles.
- Peak: the wines reach their full maturity between 10 and 15 years depending on the vintage, and continue to develop harmoniously with age.
- Area: the vineyard covers 18 ha 58 ares, offering a limited but high-quality production capacity.
The wines of Mazoyères-Chambertin are a true expression of the Burgundy terroir, combining power, elegance, and complexity, and are prized by both connoisseurs and collectors.
