Domaine Ostertag — Art, sensitivity & heritage
Founded in 1966 in Epfig, at the edge of the Alsace wine route, Domaine Ostertag rose to global prominence under André Ostertag—a poetic, philosophical winemaker who embraced biodynamics early on. Since 2018, his son Arthur continues the legacy with thoughtful innovation. The estate spans about 15 ha, divided into hundreds of tiny parcels—a complex patchwork of terroirs and age-aged vines.
Respectful viticulture & winemaking
Here, vineyards are treated like living ecosystems. Certified biodynamic (Demeter) since the late 1990s, the estate practices plowing, composting, lunar-aligned viticulture, and hand-harvesting. In the cellar, fermentations are spontaneous; aging is modest in variety (foudres, stainless steel, judicious oak), with minimal intervention—allowing each micro-terroir to shine.
Wine style
Ostertag wines are known for crystalline precision, mineral purity, and balanced elegance. Rieslings range from floral and vibrant to taut and profound. Pinot Gris reveals depth, texture, and spice. SGN selections offer sweet generosity while maintaining clarity. Overall, each wine reflects its place with vivid clarity and finesse.
