With 410 hectares, the Beaune appellation is the largest in the Côte de Beaune.
Red wine is predominant in this appellation with a significant difference between the wines from the north, which are powerful and intense, and those from the south, which are more supple.
75% of Beaunes are classified as 1er crus with 42 climates. In the north, the wines become denser as the vines climb up the hillside.
They are marked by the rock, with a tension that gives the Grèves a unique harmony and the Bressandes, a rare precision.
More heterogeneous and less steep, the southern part is under the influence of the winds.
Some climates:
Les avaux et clos des avaux: Deep, rich in water, well-drained, the terroir warms up well. In great vintages, its lifespan reaches 15 years.
Clos des mouches: At the extreme south, adjoining Pommard, this vast sunny clos is composed of marl-limestone rock that allows the wines to evolve towards finesse. The Drouhin house owns the largest parcel.
les Teurons: Located in the center of the Beaune commune territory, mid-slope, this climate is emblematic as it separates the first crus of the north and south. These are rather cold, strict, and tight wines.
