Soil and subsoil: The brown-red soil rests on the Prémeaux Limestones to the west of the plot. These compact beige-pink limestones, with a fine texture, locally contain chert (silica nodules similar to flint) that outcrop under the cross erected in the southwest corner of the grand cru, at the beginning of the Reignots.
The eastern part of the "climate" probably rests on more clayey limestones that break into slabs.
