Flagey-Échezeaux, located in the prestigious Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, is a wine-growing commune renowned for its two exceptional grands crus: Échezeaux and Grands Échezeaux. These terroirs, with their unique richness, produce red wines of great finesse, exclusively from the Pinot Noir grape variety.

The terroir of Flagey-Échezeaux is characterized by limestone and marl soils, typical of the region. At an altitude ranging between 260 and 300 meters, these soils, rich in iron oxides, display a distinctive reddish hue. The geological diversity, with Comblanchien limestone layers, Prémeaux, and Bajocian marls, imparts remarkable complexity and structure to the wines. The soils, shallow and stony at the top, become more clayey as they descend, adding to the complexity of the wine profiles.

The grand cru Échezeaux spans approximately 35 hectares and is divided into 11 distinct climates, each bringing subtle nuances to the wines produced. Échezeaux wines are distinguished by their elegance, with aromas of red fruits like raspberry and cherry, complemented by floral notes of violet and spicy or earthy touches. They are well-structured, supple, and have an impressive aging potential, often between 10 and 15 years.

Nearby, the Grands Échezeaux covers a smaller area of about 9 hectares. This vineyard produces wines recognized for their superior concentration and power. The Grands Échezeaux offer a rich aromatic complexity, dominated by black fruits, spices, and notable minerality. These wines are often more structured than those of Échezeaux and can age up to 20 years or more, developing remarkable depth and intensity.

This exceptional terroir of Flagey-Échezeaux, combined with the well-defined size of its grands crus, gives rise to wines that perfectly embody the essence of the Burgundian terroir. Échezeaux and Grands Échezeaux remain major references in the world of great Burgundy wines, sought after for their ability to reflect the finesse and depth of this prestigious wine-growing region.
